All research students must submit a thesis for examination after the end of the standard period of registration and before the maximum end date. The University encourages students to submit as soon as possible after the end of the standard period.

Research towards a PhD normally requires a minimum 36 months full-time work under the guidance of a panel of usually two or three supervisors. Candidates submit a dissertation of 80,000-100,000 words which they defend in a viva voce examination.

Thesis Preface and Structure This thesis follows the portfolio format and constitutes part-fulfilment of the degree of DClinPsychol at the University of Edinburgh. The first abstract outlines a summary of the entire thesis. The thesis contains two chapters.
